Cyclopamine is a Hedgehog (Hh) pathway antagonist with an IC50 of 46 nM in the Hh cell assay. Cyclopamine is also a selective Smo inhibitor.
Cyclopamine, is used as a hedgehog [Hh] signaling pathway and Smo inhibitor. It depletes stem-like cancer cells in glioblastoma and blocks tumor engraftment. Can also be used to induce differentiation of human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) into hormone-expressing endocrine cells.
Cycoplamine has been utilized as a small molecule inducer of stem cell differentiation towards definitive endoderm pancreatic islet cells, as a modulator of cell proliferation, and as an anticancer drug.
