Cancer Research

Unlocking the complexities of cancer is an ongoing challenge. Thankfully, with funding and renewed focus, scientists are working harder than ever to discover new and better ways to prevent, fight or even cure cancer. Captivate Bio supports cancer research studies with reliable cell culture products and custom media services designed to push discovery forward. Our team is committed to providing the tools, expertise, and flexibility needed to accelerate your research.

Cancer Research Tools

Researchers have turned to “cell-life and discovery” for designing new tools that prevent, manage, and treat different cancers. While combinations of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation are considered standard in cancer care, emerging immunotherapies have become powerful tools for targeted treatments. As a result, cells have become integral to investigating the most important and challenging problems, like scalability and reproducibility in cancer research. Whether working with natural killer cells, mesenchymal stem cells, iPS cells, or organoid models, scientists look to cytokines, cellular metabolism, cell reprogramming, and more for providing answers to eliminating cancer.1,2

Captivate Bio offers a focused, set of products that support cancer research and tumor biology including: xeno‑free culture systems, cytokines and growth factors, small molecules, human platelet lysate, as well as basal media and customized media services.

Targeting Cancer with Cytokines & Growth Factors

Cytokines are small proteins that affect cellular growth and response, including tissue repair, virus resistance, anti-cancer activity, immunity, cell death, intracellular guidance and cell development. Cytokines, commonly referred to as recombinant proteins, are categorized by their many functions and divided into five types: interleukins, growth factors, chemokines, interferons, or tumor necrosis factors. Given their multiple roles, cytokines are key to cancer research studies.3

Captivate Bio offers a unique portfolio of cytokines and growth factors used by various organizations including research hospitals, biopharma, and emerging technology companies. Our products include: Activin A, bFGF, IL-2, IL-3, IL-7, IL-21, Stem Cell Factor, and TPO, are just a few Captivate Bio products being used in cutting edge cancer research studies.

Empowering Research Hospitals with Reliable Cell Culture Media

Cell metabolism and nutrition play critical roles in cancer development and progression. Glucose and glutamine have been identified as the two most influential nutrients, as they fuel energy production, provide biosynthetic building blocks, and regulate key signaling pathways that determine how cells grow, survive, and respond to stress.4,5. To  understand  cancer cell survival and their adaptation to nutrient scarcity, researchers have come to Captivate Bio for the manufacturing of critical classical media formulations and modified custom media to help eliminate specific nutrients that may impact cancer growth.

From RPMI 1640 without Glucose and L-glutamine to customized DMEM, Captivate Bio supports various critical research programs around the United States.

Enhancing Immunotherapy with Human Platelet Lysate

Human platelet lysate (hPL) is increasingly used as a xeno‑free supplement to accelerate the expansion of therapeutic immune cells and improve the viability of tumor models. Multiple studies show that CAR-T cells and NK cells expanded in hPL proliferate better, resist exhaustion, and persist longer in vivo compared to those grown in FBS or human AB serum. This leads to stronger anti‑tumor activity in both hematologic and solid tumor models.7

Captivate Bio offers one of the largest portfolios of hPL and production tools for expanding immune cells, including:

DNA FISH Probes for Cancer Research Studies

FISH is essential to cancer research because it provides direct, visual evidence of genetic abnormalities that define, drive, and influence the treatment of tumors. By revealing translocations, aneuploidy, deletions, and additions, FISH identifies the chromosomal abnormalities that activate cancer. While some cancers look similar under a microscope, they behave very differently.

Captivate Bio’s industry partner, Rainbow Scientific, Inc. offers over 500, ready to use, ASR, goldFISHTM probes for hematology, pathology, prenatal, and molecular cytogenetic testing. These high performance and reliable probes feature flexible hybridization times (adaptable from 2 hours to 72 hours), with high signal-to-noise ratio and low cross reactivity.
